.....in front of a parking stall at a monastery near Eagle Harbor, Michigan.

We made our annual pilgrimage to the Jampot, store where monks in the Society of St. John (Greek Orthodox) sell jams, jellies, cakes, cookies and candies made in their kitchen. We weren't the only ones there, as usual; the line was out the door. People from all over the US stop there, or order online. It's worth it, believe me.

Just be careful where you park.

  1. That's cute. We have a monastery close here that is a vineyard and sells wine and honey. They make pottery and other lovely things. They are Trappist Monks - take a vow of silence - and the place is one of the most peaceful spots you can be. Glad you have found a little spot to enjoy the fruits of the labors of love. I think Thou Shalt Not Park Here was on one of the tablets that was too heavy to carry down the mountain. What do you think?

  2. Some years ago we had a monastery here in Oklahoma City of all places. The good Brothers baked bread and when Sam's Wholesale Club first came to town, you could buy it there. Funny to see them wearing their robes and beards and wheeling in their crates of bread. At the IRS, we'd occasionally get calls from the monastery wanting payoff balances of taxes owed by the newcomers who'd taken vows of poverty. Following a holy life and leaving their worldly burdens behind included getting right with the government.
